About Big Plants

Tregothnan Big Plants supplies standards, specimens, trees, shrubs and climbers in a semi-mature state to meet the growing demand for instant gardens. We also provide a range of unusual or rare plants. Tregothnan Big Plants customers range from garden designers and professional gardeners to architects and discerning individuals.

Many of our 'Big Plants' originate from the plantations or garden at Tregothnan and would have been moved to make way for new plant collections. Our staff will be happy to give you advice on the availability and suitability of plants for specific soil types, or geographic areas.

Your plants will be lifted by traditional methods and supplied wrapped in hessian or polypropylene to keep them in the best possible condition and to provide maximum protection. Plant information, including planting and aftercare instructions, is sent with each order.

The Varieties

The Tregothnan Big plant service is a highly specialised, web-based service with individual plants selected to meet the customer's exact specifications. The images of the selected plants may be emailed to customers for discussion prior to lifting and delivery.

Our most regularly ordered plants include palms (trachycarpus), rhododendrons and camellias. Most Big Plants varieties are at least one metre high, but palms can be as high as six metres. Customers may have to wait until plants are ready to lift.

New varieties are being introduced all the time, including the New Zealand Christmas tree (metrosideros), and hedges which can be ordered by the metre - ideal for instant screening.

Currently available exotic varieties include Camellia, Gunnera, Rhododendron, and Trachycarpus.

In line with other plant suppliers, Tregothnan cannot be held responsible for anything which happens to the plants, once they have left the estate.
